‘Posthumous’ 2024 Digital painting

This piece, titled 'Posthumous' is a testament to the strange, tangled nature of love, duty, and grief. For years, I upheld a tradition for my grandmother: creating a yearly calendar, with a unique drawing for each of the twelve months. What began as a loving tradition slowly became a heavy obligation, the pressure to produce eclipsing the joy of creation.

When she passed away, the tradition should have ended. But habit is a powerful force, and I was compelled to make one more. I drew the twelve images, printed the calendars, and even gave them to others—going through the motions of a ritual that had lost its heart. It was in that moment I understood that the cycle itself had become the burden, and I needed to be the one to break it.

These twelve drawings, made in the echo of a tradition, became my material for release. By digitally collapsing them into a single image, I wasn't just altering art; I was dismantling a self-imposed duty. The chaotic, blended result is a truer portrait of my experience than the neat, month-by-month calendar could ever be. It is the visual language of pressure and affection intertwined.
